What is ECO Friendly Dry Cleaning?

Despite the name, there’s really nothing dry about dry cleaning — it just doesn’t involve water. Most dry cleaners clean your garments in a solvent that is so toxic the government calls it a hazardous air pollutant and you could be breathing it in without even know it. It’s called perchloroethylene, or PERC, and it’s used by three out of four dry cleaners nationwide.

Dry cleaners love it because it’s highly effective without being labor intensive.

PERC is considered a toxic air pollutant by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) meaning that it’s “known or suspected to cause cancer or other serious health effects.” Short, concentrated blasts of PERC can cause dizziness, headaches or loss of consciousness.
